Yes the second time the engine falls it is from the plane his mother and sister are on. The first engine which Donnie is not hit by, is still from that plane. Hey man after watching the movie several times and discussing various possibilities with c ollegues aswell as reading the philosophy of time travel i think i might be able to answer your question.
Im sure someone might of already but i read the first half of the replies and then said fuck this i'll reply:
Donnie is stuck in a motion paralax i.e a time loop that keeps costantly recurring and only he can stop. This is why he wakes up at the very beginning of the movie because he failed in the previous attempt. The fact that Frank the manipulated dead can contact Donnie shows that this is not the first time he has failed to break the time warp and save the world.
The jet engine must of fell from the first time the events occured just before the time loop reset the world and was therefore stuck in the time tunnel(i.e notexisting in eithir world but suspended in air) and is the reason why the world kepps replaying its self over and over again. Donnie, being the living reciever (i.e the person most effected by the object(jet engine)) has to bring it back to the night when the other one crashed down because the other no longer exists when he travels back but it is aswell as this the key to resetting the world back into the primary universe is the sacrifice of Donnie himself other wise the Tangent universe which is nearly the whole movie will be replayed again!

I have a different theory about where the engine comes from.
This movie is about time travelling.
Normally something occurs first and the outcome of that occurrence happens afterward. (cause –> effect)
For example a plane crashes and because of that the engine of the plane falls down on a home.
What if the outcome happens first? (effect -> cause)
For example a airplane engine falls out of the sky on a home.
This would create a situation in which a cause must follow. A airplane must loose his engine in the future.
Assuming that there is no master plan and that nothing is predestined to happen, it is possible that the plane does not crash.
This is what happens in the movie. The plane does not crash in the Primary Universe.
This is a paradox that creates the Tangent universe. In the Tangent universe it is up to Donnie to create the cause of the engine falling on his house. He does this near the end of the movie by using this telekinesis powers to rip the engine from the plane and send it back through the wormhole to the Primary Universe. Now the engine falling in the PM has a cause. This solves the paradox and the tangent universe is dissolved.

Now to answer the question “Where does the first jet engine come from?”
