is that there is so obvious a paradox. He's killed by a jet engine from the future. Seems so incongruous.
Even when you're talking about time travel, etc. there still be some order. Time breaks off into a tangent loop, which eventually closes back onto itself, and in the process changes the future. Weird as that seems, it still seems like a natural process.
Does that make any sense, or am I rambling?

The understanding we've reached is that, in Primary Universe time and space, Donnie is not killed by anything from the future. He experiences the TU in a flash -- likely instantaneously -- and is killed therefore by something flowing in his same timeline.
The engine is from the future of the TU timeline, which is occuring without any lapse of the PU timeline. I agree it'd be incongruous if there weren't an alternate universe with a time-lapse that's entirely different from the PU.

Just an engine falling from the sky, without explanation. I guess maybe I've watched too much Star Trek, but I would expect a resolved temporal paradox to be undetectable or not so blatant as this is to an observer in the altered timeline. |

october 31st has not yet occured in the PU, because it is still october 2nd.
donnie did not travel into the future in the primary universe. what he experiences is a completely separate universe, not on the same time space.

I guess I'm looking for more Hitchhikers Guide seemless-type stuff. Just a personal peeve, I guess... |

the engine that kills him is from the TU, he sends it there
you don't see the PU FAA agents locate where the engine comes from because the movie doesn't go that far

It's your responsibility to demonstrate a community orientation and a respect for the people here by reading, researching and making your OWN contributions. Then people will happily answer your questions and consider your proposals. No one here is being paid to take their time to post, repost, reword and otherwise make information available. They participate because they like the movie and because they've built a trust and respect up for each other. This is not your "free and immediate answer service" on Donnie Darko ... and it's especially not so when you wantonly disregard the rules, insult people and show neither interest in nor capacity to carry your own weight. ProvidencePortal is is being inconsiderate? He is nothing short of a gentleman to everybody on this board. gentlemen if we could get back to originale question posed the rip occurs beaces the TU has jumped ahead and donnie is in the TU momentarly in the begining he then returns with the engine in the PU then frank brings him to the starting point of the rip in the TU where he realizes what he has done
