What have I started? I guess this bit I read from another thread kind of leads toward my problem: Ok, so the next thing I noticed in the interviews with Richard Kelly is that twice he refers to a twilight zone episode when talking about this movie. I'll let the reader find the episode, but I found the actual script for the episode he talks about on the web and I read it. (I highly suggest you do to) That's when it finally hit me. It never made sense to me when Richard Kelly said that its open to interpretation whether the events really happened or if its just a dream. You see in the twilight zone episode a man is about to be hanged, but at the last minute is saved. The entire episode is about what he does after this, but at the end we find out that this was just his imagination and everything happened in his head a split second before he was dropped. I guess I kind of had the same feeling as Kelly explains, that it should be a question of "did it happen, or not? Okay, so if it's all a dream, or like that episode of the Twilight Zone, then the only people who have any awareness of the happenins in the alternate universe are the affected players. The living receiver, the manipulated living, and the manipulated dead. Oh, yeah, and anyone who watches the news and sees that someone was killed by an artifact from the future! Just seems a little blunt, that's all. Maybe our understanding of the origin of the engine aren't right?
