Eh... I guess you got a point. (No hard feelings about any of this... I hate getting into arguements; I feel like an asshole easily.)

If one were inclined to adhere doggedly to the "it was all a dream" read*, there may be a parallel for both the anthem and the fireworks: the flag over Donnie's bed, which is presumably the last thing he sees before drifting off to sleep that night.
*I'm not, but I do enjoy exploring alternate interpretations.

Personally I'm not a fan of the future scientists theory so I'll just continue to go on believing that scene has no purpose at all, I think when you watch the movie for the first time, it seems like all that occurs is the will of god, which gives it a more epic feel and it's obvious this was intended to an extent due to the many religious references. When you read the TPOTT, though, it becomes more sci-fi and loses some of that epic feeling, and the future scientists theory makes it purely a sci-fi movie. Not that DD isn't still great without that epic feeling (the atmosphere is the most important element) but it does really help, and I think that's one reason why the DC wasn't as good, it forced TPOTT down your throat.
