Anybody have any ideas as to Charita's(sp?) role in this movie. What her connection with Donnie is? And why in the end does she seem happy when all the others are sad? does her dance at the talent show have special meaning? Any thoughts would be appreciated...

Cherita Chen IS the Autumn Angel and very few people (in the movie) realise this. She has a rare and pure spirit that is without prejudice, lacking the fickle moral standards held by the majority these days. Donnie recognises her in this light, defends her from the racism of others and eventually gives her some sense of hope in that "one day, everything will be better for you". Unfortunately in the hallway Cherita is still wearing her protective earmuffs (protection from society in general) and mistakes his words for insults, hence the "Chut Up!" and sudden departure. However, in the end when each character 'deja vu's' in their dreams, Cherita realises what Donnie said to her, and consequently, for once in her life, she is happy and positive about the future,in that one day, "things will be better..."
As for the others; Kitty breaks down in the dream/montage sequence, her world falls apart when she realises how neive and narrow-minded she has become in a society motivated by lunatics like Jim Cunningham. Her superficial life of false ethics and 'sparkle motion' comes crashing down when she finally finds the truth in what Donnies universe spelt out to her. Jim himself breaks down at the realisation of himself as an abuser of children and a living advertisment for idiocy. In the tangent universe he was exposed as this social deviant and now, back in the primary, falls to pieces and eventually commits suicide.
Each character in this montage sequence remembers the effects that the tangent universe had on their lives, and from the 'philosophy of time travel' book, it is relevant to note that those people who were most affected by the living receiver have the more vivid deja vu experiences.

Check out the official website for information on what happened to the characters after the events: on level two it states that Jim committed suicide. www.donniedarko.com

This news scares me....I really hope they dont ruin it but I just dont see how they could think up a sequel to this movie....of course I dont see how they made up the plot of this one...but if Richard Kelly isnt involved he wont be the one writing it....where will they find a writer thats as good as Kelly?

I always thought that Charita had a crush on Donnie. What Adam said shed some new inspirational light on the matter.
I have a query. When Donnie tells her that "everything will be ok for you" and she gets scared and tells him to "Chut up!" what is the notebook that falls to the ground with "Donnie Darko" written in caligraphy on the cover? What was up with that?
I loved the Autumn Angel scene. It was beautiful. She truly is the 'autumn angel'.

HUH? What's this about a SEQUEL? NOT done by Richard Kelly??? What's the point, then? I don't think I'd even watch it, if it's not from Kelly then it has nothing to do with the movie in my opinion. Why would anyone want to make a sequel and cause more confusion ( which is ultimately what it would do) ? I think making a DD2 would take away from the original. Sequels made from good originals usually screw up the essence of the the movie. I hope that made sense, lol. NO SEQUEL! Does this rumor have any truth to it?
