i have about 800 albums, and most of the stuff is not really popular or well-known i guess, i started getting interesting in good music as i watched music television when i was 13, since then i listened to a lot of stuff, but basically everything that is around this indie thing
mars volta and sparta are both pretty good, but i always feel something is missing i dont listen to screaming stuff usually, only to atd-i and the blood brothers (the latest album crimes is really cool)
plans is a pretty good album, but i dont think it is even close to the older death cab albums, title track is my favorite song
more good music: animal collective and architecture in helsinki, so cute funny music, makes me happy

I just bought The Subways - Young For Eternity. Good fun! I'm probably going to get the new Sigur Ros album at some point too. I have "Agealis byrjun" and it's like nothing you've ever heard!

www.gatsbysamericandream.com/I could not copy and paste this last night. Or tonight. I had to type it in. But if you read about these guys you will see that they really put a lot of thought into their lyrics. My favorite song is on Volcano and it is in reference to Lord of the Flies. Did anyone ever check out The Blue Sky Mile song with reference to Donnie Darko? I am waiting to get the new Dar Williams CD and also I am thinking about picking up Brandi Carlisle. I am not that keen on country but I keep hearing one of her songs on my radio station and her voice is sooooo warm and so lofty. She is only 23. Grandpa, I can't believe I have never heard of Dada. They sound like a very cool band!! I plan on checking them out as well one of these days.

Grandpa, I can't believe I have never heard of Dada. They sound like a very cool band!! I plan on checking them out as well one of these days. Beatle-esque melodies and harmonies, big guitar sound (especially for only 3 guys). Two excellent songwriters. They're pretty special. You'll probably recognize this clip: www.dadatheband.com/audio/puzzle/04.mp3That's not anywhere near their best song, but it's the only "hit" they ever had. Check 'em out.

Grandpa! I was at the used cd store and I picked up Dada American Highway Flower. They sound great. I picked this cd because it had a song "Pretty Girls Make Graves" and that is a popular band right now who must have gotten their name from that song? So far they really remind me of Toad The Wet Sprocket and a little bit of Alan Parsons and a lot of an old 70's band named Charlie! I will look for El Sublisimo! next time I am cd hunting!

Grandpa! I was at the used cd store and I picked up Dada American Highway Flower. Good choice. That's probably my favorite, although they're all good. I believe Dada got the title for "Pretty Girls" from a Jack Kerouac novel, The Dharma Bums. Don't know if that's where "Pretty Girls" the band got its name or not. The Smiths also titled their debut album "Pretty Girls Make Graves," I believe, so it's not original to Dada. Happy listening!

I am listening again to Plans by Death Cab for Cutie...I had misplaced it. I love the song Brothers on a Hotel Bed. If you listen to it there is one piano note that picks up at the beginning of the song and then plays through the rest of the song. I am also listening to 10,000 Maniacs In My Tribe I had it on tape long ago and just found it at a used CD place in Seattle. I have been craving it and couldn't go another winter without hearing the Weather song. "A shiver in my bones just thinking about the weather"

Would I be out of place if I said, 'Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind' soundtrack? Lol. Not so morbid, but very symbolic all the same...

That's a great soundtrack. Jon Brion is God.

Well, sort of, he sits on the right hand of God (Alan Silvestri). Angelina Jolie floats above God. Danny Elfman is god's messenger and Vangelis is a fallen angel. But before I rearrange the hierarchical structure of paradise, I have to say I agree, Jon Brion never fails to shock me.

Whoa, you're right. Alan Silvestri IS God. I forgot about him. The Contact soundtrack is among my favorites.
