Where The Wild Things Arequite disappointing, even going in wanting to enjoy and like this movie. aside from the superb young actor and the "creature effects", this film falls short of its promise. it's just not that much fun. the story, what there is of one, is difficult to follow and gets lost amidst fights, whining, and turbulent emotions (my daughter, 15, describes it as "bi-polar" and lacking the personality of the book; the underlying theme of the original story is not alluded to or remarked upon). there is a lot of dialogue that doesn't drive anything forward or reveal much of significance. the music, very effective at times, often becomes an attention-demanding presence. the costumes are admirable but i grew tired of the rather stiff faces of the creatures, even given the CG attempts at animating them. also, the voices did not match how i'd imagined "wild things" would sound nor did i think they would talk so much. unlike the book from which this film has come, which has great appeal for children & adults, this version is not appropriate for young children nor does it satisfy this adult.

Ben XA very dark film, but compelling. Really speaks to the outcast in me (me in general, basically). Unfortunately, it decides to threaten its impact and poignancy right at the end with a series of twists, and never quite recovers. Stop watching this one after the scene on the boat, and while you will likely be a bit depressed, I think you'll realize that in a way, there is still victory and courage there. I however, watched the whole thing, and it just really waters itself down towards the end.

The finally twist, I think, saved it from ending really badly, it kind of made you rethink the events towards the end and that was good, but yeah, I still think I would have cut that whole final bit.

Paranormal ActivityHas no one else been looking out for this one? I just watched it tonight, and while it wasn't bad, it didn't match my hype. The first 20 minutes was just banter between the two protagonists, well-acted, occasionally funny, but ultimately fluff. The next 40 minutes had the occasional spook, mostly coming in the form of some sort of loud noise, but just as they began to build any tension, they would release it with another banter segment that would just destroy the mood. The last 30 minutes were a great improvement, with the tension finally building, and the final moments are fantastic (with a really top-notch ending). While there are too many areas that need work to highly recommend this one, it's still an alright watch. Oddly enough, despite my relative apathy, some people seemed legitimately freaked out, so maybe it effects people in different ways. i thought this was the worst movie ive seen in a long time i was so hyped up for it and it sucked. it was too forced and the whole thing was terrible im pissed off , next movie im looking foward too is The Fourth Kind that looks good

The Fourth Kind looks like it might be good, we'll see.
I actually appreciate PA's spirit, a low-budget horror flick that tries to really build tension and scares instead just relying on special effects, it just that it doesn't succeed at that goal to any spectacular extent.

I had a little chuckle at posting this here, given the title of the thread. Just know I'm not presuming -- this seemed the most appropriate place is all. We've shot and canned another short. The trailer is here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=eIUBJD7g5E8. Love for you to watch it. Maybe rate it. Definitely come back here and give me the usual honest appreciative AND constructive feedback you guys are all so good at. We'll debut the full short at the beginning of December. More on that below, but I'll post here of course. To manage your expectations going in: this is the trailer for a movie created for another timed short film competition. We had from Friday night to Monday night this time (72 hours instead of the 48 we had in the last contest) to conceive, write, cast, shoot, edit, create effects, render, package and mail it in -- postmarked Monday, 10/26. There were 162 teams who got a film in by the deadline out of 186 entrants -- and for a contest like this, that's an extraordinary success rate. There are two rounds of judging. Round one cuts that 162 down to 15. Round two sees those 15 posted online, where they will simultaneously be judged for the various contest superlatives (best writing, directing, acting, etc. through to best overall) and voted on by the public for "audience favorite." I'm keeping our film off line against the very short odds that we'll be in the top 15 -- I figure if we do make the cut, we'll want as much demand as we can muster to drive people to the site to view and vote. So, till then, here's the teaser. Hope it's :56 of fun in your day. Jason

classic, textbook trailer for a zombie(looked abit like a vampire?) film.
Start with the news stories and build tension to an end that makes you take note.
I think the end could be better if the face was a bit more close up, so that there isnt anything distracting from the face, and if the scream was a bit louder there would be more chance to make someone jump. As it was, the scream just seemed a little too subdued?

Provi, I don't think the link works anymore. It said it was malformed or something. I was disappointed with Where the Wild Things Are as well. It was like the magic was weakened with the real life stuff that I just didn't feel was necessary. I don't like the choice for the mother because she was so unbelievable. (toni collette would have been perfect) but I still didn't like the character at all. on the other hand...the movie Up was awesome and I am not even one who likes animation all that much.
It's not a movie but all of these cancelled Bryan Fuller shows have me hooked and the latest one is Wonderfalls. That guy is brilliant without a doubt.

Try this: www.youtube.com/watch?v=eIUBJD7g5E8which is the direct link, or this: www.youtube.com/user/HandsOffMediawhich is the link to our production group's film reel page. i wish david/moonage were still around. i went to poecide.com and it's defunct. i always enjoyed when he'd share a film with us; would love to talk with him again about it, now that i have the perspective of having shot a couple.

classic, textbook trailer. Thanks. Seems to me, the formula works, so as a neophyte -- my first trailer ever -- I figure I ought to stick with it. I think the end could be better if the face was more close up and if the scream was louder. Regarding the clarity of the monster-face closeup, I had to make a call: reveal more and give too much away, or reveal less and leave people with questions or confusion. I had to go with the latter, but I know it has its problems. Regarding the scream volume: you're right -- louder probably would be better for effect. I have been absolutely floored working with sound effects; they are even more important and more influential than I thought going in. And as it turns out, subtly does help much. I constantly worry about crossing the cheese line, but with sound design, you really can ham it up. Thank you VERY much for watching and commenting, Phil. Appreciate it.

classic, textbook trailer. Just readin that back, it could be interpreted in a negative, sarcastci way, but it was fully intended to be a compliment. It was a profesional looking trailer.

I saw it! I find it very intriguing. I have so many questions and I would want to see the movie so I could get them answered. I loved the audio of the radio because I found it's message foreboding. I love the title Threshold. Cool! Can't wait to see the short!.

Sugarthis film is sublime, as a movie both about baseball and about coming to terms with the direction in which life/circumstances take one. a finely made film, it respects the intelligence of the viewer & rewards those who know/love the game. in one shot we see only the pitcher, after delivering, looking at the hit (we can tell it's going into left field) and then running -where?- it's not shown exactly but we, some of us, know he's going to back up the catcher at home plate, and we know immediately that it's going poorly for him; that's the entire shot, offered w/o explication/dialogue, yet it conveys so much. one of the best baseball films i've yet seen and still much more than that, for those who are fans of the game & fans of good filmmaking.
