Principal photography is slated to begin on August 1 in Los Angeles. I'm already looking forward to reading the stories and seeing the movie. Great concept! I bought 50,000 shares at www.hsx.com , the Hollywood Stock Exchange. It's like a fantasy league for picking movies. Does anybody here play it?

In addition to the feature film, an expanded version of Southland Tales will be presented as a nine-part interactive experience with the prequel saga to be published as six separate 100 page graphic novels, each written by Kelly. The graphic novels will be released over a six month period early next year leading up to the film's release with the feature film comprised of the story's final three chapters. In addition, the film's official website will be one of the largest and most elaborate ever designed for a feature film. “The graphic novels will work in tandem with the website, creating a more epic multimedia experience for those interested in taking the plunge," added Kelly.
Released online or you have to actually purchase them?

The cynic in me says you'll have to buy them. But who knows? - maybe they'll be published on the website like PoTT was.

“The graphic novels will work in tandem with the website Judging by this I would say that it will probably be released online... If you look at the site, there are nine interactive boxes which are not activated yet and a messege appears of "coming soon" So maybe those are it... But it's a faire chance for either or..... I would hope that it is found online...

Hey! It's all about the money... so I wouldn't be surprised to see that it is only released on hard copy, if they think it can bring in some revenue, it is most likely that they do it... I probably wouldn't buy it myself though....

I probably wouldn't buy it myself though.... Hell, I will! I bought the Donnie Darko books, and a few of the Sin City novels after watching the movie, so I dunno why I wouldn't do the same for ST. I guess I just like my stories in different medias.

I just visited the site - and having seen the 6 empty slots I'm now inclined to say they will be published online. At least I hope so. The site for usident (the security sequnce you see as you enter the site) also exists at www.usident.org. Nothing there but a splash image at the moment - but it's something else to keep an eye on.

Seems like they'd want to make some money off of the books, but maybe there are enough people interested in owning the actual books that they will still be a success.

Not too long I think. The article that Omni referred to says that the movie is the last 3 parts of a nine part story, so each of the 6 graphic novels would be equivalent to a third of a movie, if that helps at all...
