Having seen Donnie Darko a countless about of times (and discussing it with several individuals), I understand the whole role time travel plays in the movie, and that Frank saved Donnie so he could show him about Time Travel. But if Frank had the power to wake donnie up on Oct. 2nd, THEN WHY DIDNT HE JUST LEAVE DONNIE IN HIS BED TO BEGIN WITH??? Thus allowing Frank and all the others not to die in the first place.......... PLEASE HELP

I'll help you out....you don't understand how time travel plays out in the movie.
Start your research there.
Everyone will just get hostile if you don't research first.
Good luck!

He couldn't leave him in because then the PU would be missing some mass, therefore domming the universe to nothingness.

Because it was a love story....
Donnie gladly gave his life after finding the love of his life so she would go on happily.

loved the film, was majorly disapointed with the philosophy of time travel book.... seemed to lack any depth or smarts.

el·e·ment ( P ) Pronunciation Key (l-mnt) n.
1. A fundamental, essential, or irreducible constituent of a composite entity. 2. The basic assumptions or principles of a subject. 3. One of four substances, earth, air, fire, or water, formerly regarded as a fundamental constituent of the universe.
...what was that you were saying?

Well sure, except when it's religious allegory, or supernatural thriller, or an introspective psychological trip. It all depends on your subjective interpretation...
Again - this depends on your point of view - in Taoism and other ancient oriental philosophies the elements are wood, fire, earth, metal and water. "Element" in the context of PoTT doesn't necessarily refer to the periodic table.
It does demonstrate imagination and storytelling in spadeloads though - it's not supposed to be deep, it's supposed to hint at the greater content of the book to encourage you to use your imagination. I'm not really sure where you are going with the 'lack of smarts'. In terms of 'real' physics the point is moot - it's a fictional book about fictional pseudo physics and meta-physics written by an ex nun... In terms of it's part in the technical execution of filmmaking and storytelling on Kelly's part, it's hardly dumbed down. It forces you to actually think - feeding you just enough information to get you formulating your own ideas, whilst not spoon-feeding you the plot. The imagination put into the whole process is phenomenal - if only because it forces you to use yours.

kdizzle, my nizzle!!
Gretchen, your point is well illustrated. I agree with you one hundred percent. But do you really think this person would care?
I mean seriously - kdizzle?! Probably some pimply teenage white boy from the suburbs surfin on a computer his Mommy and Daddy bought him.
Why waste intelligence on something (or somebody) like that??
