hey all,
i just finished watching the movie barely 30 minutes ago and felt like immediatly jumping onto a forum to see what others thought of this movie (a very good one, in my opinion).
after only a few minutes on this site i've already sketched 2 time-line graphs, and have noticed quite a bit of discussion over why Donnie died at the end.
I wonder if anyone out there has read Stephen King's Dark Tower series? If you haven't, its a great series and I warn of following spoilers to those who should want to pick up the books!
At the end of the first (of seven!) book, the main character allows a boy whom entered his world (the series follows a multi-universe theroy somewhat) via death (being pushed in front of a car by a serial-killer) to die, a mistake he regrets.
In the second book of the series, he is given the chance to enter The Boys world and prevent the serial-killer from ever actually pushing the oby in front of the car in the first place, thus creating a problem down the road.
The problem? if The Boy had never been pushed, how is it that the main character (Roland, by the way) could have ever met him? He should, by stopping the murder, have never met The Boy! This creates a duel-mind trap that results in Roland believing two seperate pasts, or two seperate paths of time. He slowly begins to go insane.
Getting to the movie, however: If Donnie had lived, i believe a similar situation could have happened where Donnie would slowly be knawed away at the belief that a seperate reality that he caused to cease to exist had once existed.
Thoughts?
