Alright someone has probably said something quite a bit like this but I havent read it so tell me what ya think of my theory.
Alright jet engine crashed through Donnie's room but Frank calls him out so he doesnt die like he was supposed to messing with the destiny that everyone is supposed to follow. This creates the tangent universe which will be destroyed in 28 days. Donnie has all the reciever talents like the book says. Water=the flood, fire=burning down creepy pedo's house,strength=axe in bronze dog statue. So pretty much Frank is goin around makin Donnie do things that will ensure the outcome of the tangent universe to make sure the primary universe go's back into motion. Donnie floods the school=Meets gretchen,Burns down guys house=he go's to jail=Donnies mom has to take kids on the infamouse aeroplane,Note to sparrow=she will be standing in the road to make sure Frank swurves and kills Gretchen=Donnie killing Frank and letting himself die at the end to set primary back in place and to make sure all these people dont get hurt. So what happens becuase of donnies death? Frank,Gretchen,and his Mom and Sister are all saved(they wouldnt of gotten on the plane now). And Primary universe can keep chugging along now. Well thats kind of long but if anyone can stomache all that feel free to tell me what ya think
