Where is the damn plane?

Im having a hard time understanding where the plane comes from. Ok i understand that when the clock hits 12 midnight the tangent universe begins right?.........so then the engine falls from nowhere on the house. Then at the end of the movie when the engine falls into the portal from the TU into the PU it still comes from nowhere right?............because if the whole plane would have to enter the portal but that would mean donnies mother and sister would be dead in the firey plane crash.....................and another odd thing about the end is when frank drops donnies sister off at the house again at the end of the movie he is honking his horn like he knows what has happened in the tangent universe and is trying to wake up donnie again.........or its because he's looking out his car window watching the engine fall from the sky

So where is the plane when the TU is ended? Is it just understood that there was a plane that an engine fell off of?

In the DVD commentary the director says that in every time travel movie you're gonna have a paradox, or something that can't be explained. So I think the engine that kills Donnie is the paradox because it came out of nowhere without explanation as to its origin.

The director also says Frank is honking his horn as a signal for Donnie to get out of bed but he either doesn't pay attention or he doesn't hear him.
