Is Frank.... Frank because he came from.... the future through the TU because he died and he could help donnie to close the TU because he is the animated dead (or what ever, sorry its late and I can hardley think lol) so......... does that mean cos donnie sacrafised himself and died, does he become what frank was if it happend again? surely if it happend once it could happen again, but would Donnie take Franks place? or would it be someone totally different I might be totally off plot here, but im not drunk or stoned lol just perhaps being lame

Frank is just a guy, that in the TU is killed by donnie.
In the TU the living reciever(donnie) is guided by the manipulated dead (frank), who has the ability to time travel.
The living recievers roll in the TU is to save the PU by preventing the TU form collapsing in on itself, creating a black hole and detroying everything.
The PU is saved by the living reciever (donnie) succesfully returning the artifact (plane engine) to the PU from the TU.
When this is done the PU resests itself to when the TU was created and all the events that occurd in the TU never happned although people who were affected by the events in the TU still have vivid dreams about it.

So in reality frank is still alive and donnie is dead. But frank has dreams about some guy (donnie) shooting him in the eye.

that is actually quite a good idea although . i kinda am still confused on how he goes bk in time its like wot u see in the film makes sense everything fits together but for some reason the ending still bloody confuses me.!!!

Greedy - LOL. You could go on forever - CU (congruent Universe), AU (Asymptotal Universe) etc.
Although I would point out that PU (in DD context) stands for 'Primary Universe'.

DarkGirl - Donnie does not travel in time at all - he does travel between the PU and the TU though;
From PU to TU just before Frank calls him for the first time, and back from TU to PU at the end when the TU is destroyed.

Even then the only things to 'physically' travel btween universes are the engine(s). Everything else is a copy - only the concious minds of the people 'travelled' between the universes.

And even that can be broken down further: there are philosophical standpoints that state that the mind/soul is not an integral part of the physical body, and exists on a 'higher plane' (or alternate universe if you will ) interacting remotely. (My sister, who did a degree in philosophy, described the brain as 'a radio antenna for the soul'. I quite like that!
If you subscribe to this idea then it is not necessary (in DD) for the minds of people to travel between TU and PU at all.

While events occur in the TU, no time (or a vanishingly small amount of time) passes in the PU.
The only entity to actually time travel in the movie is Manipulated Dead Frank.
