I thought of an interesting way to explain the paradox. WHo has seen "Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure"? They solve several of their problems by saying "later today we will go back in time and do this" and then it happens. If they do not do these things later it will cause a paradox. Therefore Rufus in a bunny costume will follow them around and make sure they do these things. Since the engine falls from the sky from another timeline, Frank forces Donnie to follow a timeline that will end in an engine falling from the sky. Make sense?
