Gretchen --
I'm new to the digs (love what you all have done with the place, by the way), but it's clear that you're a person of some influence here. I noticed you're often reminding people about message board protocol -- trimming threads or posting under appropriate headers and the like -- so I'm posing a question: who is responsible for cataloguing, categorizing and maintaining the site?
My experiences at the Ringworld forums taught me the importance of having a strong chief moderator locking inappropriate posts; it also showed how powerful a table of contents by theories/questions can be. Is anyone undertaking work like that here? I see already we have a very well done initial pass at the categories ("physics" and "psychology," etc.) ... but it might be good to have the questions people ask added as topic links, so when people wonder, "Did Donnie have to die?" or "When does the Tangent Universe begin," they won't post randomly but will instead head to the proper link.

the "moderator" if you can call her that, is Rachel Crane. however... i think i have seen ONE post by her, EVER, and she's never around. she doesn't clean up the boards, doesn't get rid of annoying people, etc. i'm also a member of a couple other non related forums, and it is SO important to have this place organized. too many people come on here new and just post away when there are already huge discussions going on. it's frustrating because these new posts push our existing threads off the front page and not many people are dedicated enough to look through the other pages... also, those of use who have been around for a while, even though we love discussing DD it gets annoying to have to answer the same questions OVER AND OVER, when all somebody has to do is do a little search. we welcome fresh new theories and ideas and such, don't get me wrong, but it does get tiresome talking about the stupid FAA guy constantly and the connection between donnie and jesus. while we love to help, sometimes it can get frustrating. believe me, if i could take this place over i would. but i'm just doing what i can to help... i may seem snippy at times but i am just trying to keep everything neat

Nope -- I totally get it, which is why I asked you specifically. I can tell you're interested in having an organized spot; really, that makes things easier on everyone.
Maybe we could do a little lobbying of the moderator ... make some suggestions, offer to pitch in? I'd for one would be happy to help catalogue some things.

we could try... she has her email listed but who knows if she checks that account... nobody's really tried to do anything about it before. we've complained but just stuck with it... IIVII was talking about starting his own forum, and i haven't seen him around in a while so maybe that's what he did.

Well, that's something we could try -- beginning a new forum and migrating material there. Proboards are free, and if ours is more a librarian's effort (that is, catalogue the good stuff, put it in a sensible order, keep it around so people can have access to the great answers people here have come up with), then I think we could do it.

I would be very interested in starting a new fourm / fansite to discuss the Darko series. Perhaps I could procure a new domain to talk about the movies.
