I don't believe that. I think they are the same engine... I think you can discern that from Level 3 on the movie website. I know there is a difference between IDENTICAL and being the SAME, but I think they ARE the same. I think Artifacts can cross the gap between the two universes. The engine is ripped off and goes through the portal in the Tangent Universe, somehow ending up in the Primary at the end of the movie. It signifies the presense of a TU at the beginning of the movie, but it's outside the TU at the end. What I don't know is what Donnie does to make the engine cross from one universe to the other.
And since the engine was ripped off in the TU, and the TU is erased, that explains why an identical engine is still in perfect working condition on the plane that never made the flight from L.A.
I know this seems like a glitch in the universe, having two of the exact same thing, but it's the tell-tale glitch... *goes to re-read POTT* Now that I'm typing this out, it doesn't seem quite right... There shouldn't BE a tell-tale glitch...
ETA: From POTT "Those who do remember the Journey are often over- come with profound remorse for the regretful actions buried within their Dreams, the only physical evidence buried within the Artifact itself, all that remains from the lost world. "
So, the Artifact does remain... I belive the TU Artifact and the PU Artifact can exist simultaneously in the same universe. Just one of those inexplicable things.

Good post, but that wasn't what I was saying. I was saying that I think the plane engine that crashed in Donnie's room wasn't sent by him basically, although that's possible if you ignore cause and effect like MD Frank and ML Frank. Donnie could have sent the engine that didn't kill him.

You mean, without meaning to? The engine that didn't kill him and the engine that DID kill him are the same engine... it only got sent once, and Donnie sent it.

Right, like the MD and ML Frank. That's a theory. I already knew the two engines mentioned on level three were from different universes.

GARGAMEL: You know that little light that says "Caps Lock"? It doesn't have to be on all the time.
I know it's a paradox, but I really think that's how it works... if there were 2 engines, it would destroy the one thread that holds the entire movie together.

First of all, not a man. Secondly, it's standard netiquette. Caps = yelling. If anything, the caps are hurting you; it makes you seem overly hostile. I find that I'm more apt to accept the theories of those who have a basic grasp of both netiquette and the English language. *coughpunctuationcough* But hey, that's just me.

I dont think this has to deal with english comphrehension.....I also sometimes spell things wrong and I would never say anything about someones bad english but the caps thing is a simple change that you could make that would make a lot of our browsing of this site more pleasent

I don't worry about bad spelling either, unless you put an E on the end of Darko or something.
Anyway, the Artifact. Is freaky and mysterious. And has a cool swirly design. Yes.
