Hi, this is my first post, but i have been lurking ever since i saw the movie for the first time. I was wondering if anyone had thought of the significance of BOTH movie titles in the movie theater when he burns down the house. First off is the movie they are seeing, "The Evil Dead". In the theater are both Manipulated Dead, Gretchen and Frank. "The Last Temptation of Christ" is also playing, and the Christ like figure of Donnie is also in the theater. I believe Donnie to be a Christ like figure because he gives up his life for everyone else to live, meaning had he not died in the end, then the artifact could not have been returned to the tangent universe. Just as Jesus on Golgotha, he questions all of this when speaking to the science teacher about time travel, a la "Why have you forsaken me". Finally, in the end, he accepts what he must do and finally laughs, as if saying "Father, into your hands i commend my spirit." I am not Christian, i just go to a Catholic school and understand a great deal of the bible, and i believe this to be the deeper meaning to the movie. Please let me know how wrong i am. Thanks!

I agree 100%. I and others have posted similar thoughts on other threads. I am a Christian, and while some might think that taints my interpretation, I can't see how the Christ/Messiah implications of the film can be avoided, especially when you consider the scene you mentioned. Hope this movie might make you think more about the truth of Jesus Christ and His offer of salvation. Peace out.
