as im about to embark on my long and amazingly difficult anaysis into the twisted reality that is donnie darco i would like to point out the resembelence to Cunninghams (the writer not the chracter) fantastically twisted "Rime of the Ancient Mariner". the director (sorry for my lack of knowledge) and Cunningham are very much the same, hinting and never telling. basically its all down to arrogence, "fun arrogence" which all us lesser mortals will have the pleasure of enjoying when we eventually work it out. the book and the movie are VERY similar, read into it you never know it might shock you, and we all want to make an impact dont we...
oo p.s. "platos cave" may have a lot to do with the ending : /. & sorry about my bad spelling.

I thought it was Coleridge who wrote the rime of the ancient mariner, and could you please explain the platos cave analogy to me as I do not understand how it links to the end

Platos cave also came to mind when Donnie enters Sparrows Cellar and finds the two criminals.
