if you have the donnie darko dvd watch it normally and if you still dont get it watch the directors commentary it helped me alot and i figured out when the shot of when evrything reversing and they woke up they all thought the last 28 days was a dream even though it felt so real and they talk about this in the deleted scenes when gretchen and donnie are in the arcade playing a driving game which oddly enough donnie is driving a red sports car which we all know is the car that ran over gretchen and i also think that grandma deaths house has something to do with time travel and the porthole but i suppose the reason that the ending was like it was is because of the sttention that they would get for it like the attention we are all giving it right now but the real answer is there is no wrong answer you come up with your theroy and someone else comes up with theirs and nobody will ever know what the real answer is
