ok, his family was crying the second time around not just because donnie died but because they remembered being in the tangent universe and the plane crash etc. if you notice while the song mad world is on they show a clip of frank (the 'real' frank) touching his eye and they show jim cunningham waking up as if from some nightmare. So since they know what is or was to occur, they will change the future now and travle out of 'gods channel' so to speak.

Why would the plan engine get ripped off in the first place after Donnie died? By his death dose that not mean that there would be NO swearing portal thing? He changed everything by dieing, including the opening of the portal, so the plan never got touched the “second” time around. Am I Right?

It's the paradox of a time travel movie. I see what you're saying, by him dieing then the future should be altered so he wouldn't get a chance to go through the tangent universe and direct the engine etc. But I think (don't know if I'm right) that the tangent universe time line doesn't affect the primary universe. Hard to explain. But Richard Kelly claims it's a paradox of a time travel movie heh.

Frenzal is hitting the nail pretty hard. "Mad World" playing over the whole ending is pertinent. It can be seen as a reflection on how we all feel at one time or another, that the world doesn't work, that things are falling apart and there isn't a damn thing we can do about it. In other words, Donnie was going to die no matter what. But he was given the choice(?) to die and be a hero. Again, as I've said in other posts, the "free will v. pre-destination" aspect of the film, which is a very religious concept and debate. Anyway, some (yet more) things to think about. Peace out.
