ok, I MUST say this....there is no way Donnie was saving Frank. Frank was not killed until AFTER the tangent universe was created. Remember? ok then.....why would Frank be trying to save himself? When calling Donnie from his sleep, when the engine crashed in the first place, is EXACTLY what led to Frank getting shot? gah....I am confuzzled....I just don't think Frank was trying to "save himself"...he would have lived by simply NOT calling Donnie from his sleep...

You are all sort of wrong. Frank isn't trying to save himself. He isn't trying to do anything. He is a puppet. A dead puppet. God is using frank, and God is manipulating everyone to put donnie into the right place to return to the real universe and close the portal. Whether or not anyone dies along the way or doesn't die or whatever is irrelevant. As long as Donnie understands Gods plan of ending the tangent and does so. Everything that happens supposedly could have happened another way, as long as it had the same end result. Afterward, Donnie actually has a choice of life and death. He chooses to die and is relieved because..."there will be so much to look forward to.."

hi, i really like whats going on on this whole board.
I kinda liked every hypothesis, but what i liked most was the theory that Donnie traveled back in time from present. well it kept me thinking about it so i kinda came to a poit:

think about it, Donnie some how (because he was sleepwalking) didnt went GODs way. so his future was outacontrol and things messed up (G/F died, Frank died ....) and he must be cought by the police ... fucking future. so he somehow found a portal and went back, thats why he was lieing on the street and smiled. but shortly after that he forgot (like a dream).

I came to this version because Frank, when he first appeard was way much too early, right there couldnt be a portal.

so if you think aboub it the artifakt (turbine) would travel back in time eather way ..... doesnt matter if donnie diees or lives, so donnie might not be the choose one for the turbine (artifakt). but he has traveled back in time and the only one he killed was Frank, a manipulated dead, from here on its kinda like every other theory.

then Donnie found out about the portal, and after killing frank he descided to DIE in the first place but needed a portal -- tada the plane with his parents ..... the Artifakt will create one and transport him directly some secounds bevore he actually dies ......

so hope you got an idea of what i ment.
The book from sparrow mentions that traveling back in time is possible but only occours very rarely, why mentioning that in the book when nobody traveled back ?? why 1988 all the time?? it kinda makes sens.

The fact that frank apeard "a large" timeperiod bevore the ARTEFAKT PORTAL opened ....
so donnie created his Tangend universe by traveling back .....
