::)Now- I don't know whether the majority of DD fans are just too young to recall the 80's music- But, I do remember that time period... even as a young teenager, and Tears for fears songs like "Mad World" 1983 and "Head over heels" 1985 were way*OLD* already by the late 80's!!!
By then- GUNS -n- ROSES were the big teen thing, as well as Salt n Peppa, Whitsnake, Motley crue, etc.... DOYYY!!!
I don't know about the rest of you- but THAT REALLY bugs me about the movie- Other than that it's an awesome movie for the most part......

The music was good though....whether or not it suits what most people were listening toat the time doesnt really matter all that much as far as I'm concerned....Guns and Roses wouldnt have worked for this movie

I totally agree that the songs chosen fit the mood of the movie much better than what was out in '88.. I understand that... I guess Im just tired of hearing how "chronologically correct" the movie was written... IMO they should have set the movie in 1985 then

Well, if you think about it, that's only three years difference from the time the song came out to the time the movie takes place. People don't just stop listening to music. I don't know about you, but the majority of music I listen to now is over 5 years old. It doesn't matter if the movie takes place 3 years after. Also, the Tears for Fears songs weren't being played in the world of the students anyway. They were overlapped tracks of music to fit with the scene, not integrated with the action like the "Under the Milky Way Tonight" or "Proud to be Loud" in the party scene.
Now if the songs had been released in 1989, then that'd be something to worry about. But music that came out in 1985 is nothing to worry about.

IMO they should have set the movie in 1985 then It is chronologically correct....any anachronisms that showed up in the movie have room to be challenged and the music was completely correct.....I don't care if they add music from 76....if the song was made before 88 its fine....and I believe 88 was the year that the idea originally started floating around Richards mind....so of course he set it to that year

Well you're SOO wrong for saying something as dumb as that twice.
Not every movie has to have any certain style of music for its soundtrack!
I think the music was perfectly placed in every way. I don't know what you're thinking.

IMO they should have set the movie in 1985 then So you're saying every song would have had to have been new in '88 to be reflective of that period? I'm sure I disagree. Have you ever made a mix tape/CD to represent a period of your life, to help you remind you of who you were, what you loved, what you did, etc. in that timespan? I'll bet you had songs from all over the timeline on there -- maybe even classic rock from the '60s or blues from the '40s on a 2004 CD, because those songs were part of your experience in that time. A song like "Head over Heels" -- or any of the others Kelly selected -- is representative ... and it represents an era, not a year. (And, as context, I'm 30 and lived the music of the '80s, so I'm not "too young to remember.") edit: added parenthetical at end

You have to "try" to use punctuation, and you think this makes you a smartass? I'd suggest it's more likely to make you the ... er, opposite variety.

lol and u know what this should scare ya there giving me prima cord and plastic explosives ;D ;D Greedy, I have to hand it to you: I respect you for always keeping your sense of humor. Prov, didn't you know that MENSA and the US Marine Corps are affiliates now? Hilarious, BB. And actually, I think I did hear about that partnership. Something about the brains at MENSA discovering a "heretofore wholly unprecedented combination of youthful, physically strong specimens with commensurately underdeveloped cognition" ... and wanting to tap these "vessels" as part of their MindTransference(TM) longevity program ...
