I'm almost positive that its part of the original score for the film.

The score is also considered the soundtrack for donnie darko (The true soundtrack was never realeased due to legal reasons). You can also download the soundtrack from most p2p programs.

(The true soundtrack was never realeased due to legal reasons). Wait, I never heard about this. I just thought they never released it. What legal issues came up?

It wasn't because of legal issues: Richard Kelly said it himself, they couldnt' afford to put out the pop songs' soundtrack, only the original score.
You have to pay royalities, of course, to each performer if you make a soundtrack, and as many of you know, they were on a very limited budget.
Here, however, are the pop songs: (you can dL them)
01 The Killing Moon - by Echo & The Bunnymen 02 Head over Heels - by Tears for Fears 03 Notorious - by Duran Duran 04 Proud To Be Loud - by The Dead Green Mummies 05 Love Will Tear Us Apart - by Joy Division 06 Under the Milky Way - by The Church 07 Mad World - by Gary Jules
Chronologically. Altho I doubt a pop song sdtrk will come out this late (altho the director's cut came out this late, so who knows), you can (legally, of course) dL this songs. Or if you live in a mansion with your own pond, buy each CD from these artists and rip the songs onto one cd.
