This is my interpretation of the film, will you please tell me if you find it plausible or to make sense?
Donnie Darko escapes death by the fact a manipulated dead was sent to earth (Frank) by a manipulated living's (Donnie's Mother) airplane flying into a portal and therefore losing control, the plane went to a different time and the engine escaping this fate fell to the ground through the path time created for it, Frank awakens Donnie to get out of the way of the engine and in saving Donnie he had changed the course of time so Donnie technically lived two lives at one time, one where he lives and the other intermingling where he dies. The one where he lives he eventually has two people die by his responsibility and the one where he dies he sacrafices himself to save the others. Frank returns to his time after donnie sacrafices himself, and so does Gretchen because the living receiver had done his job on earth and successfully followed the dead Frank's direction, he destroyed a pedophiles house and let an old woman know her theory was correct both of those people were saved. In a way it does sound like a christian theory and being Im not religious I really wouldnt know but the theory I came out with is one man sacraficing himself for others to live, kind of like the christian Jesus.....
Does my theory sound at least a bit plausible or does it sound nothing like donnie darko?
