www.ruinedeye.com/cd/follow.htmgood site about Donnie Darko info. If you look in the misc info link it will talk some about celler door. apparently J.R.R. Tolkein and Edgar Allen Poe both thought this.

Cellar door - written on the blackboard, its just another guiding factor which leads Donnie to his fateful end. It also represents beauty in life. in one of the deleted scenes, Karen asks donnie if he will "ever find his cellar door" and he responds by saying "i have, she just wont talk to me". We're all searching for a cellar door; "something better". Karen Pomeroy rocks.

I dunno what Tolkein and Poe were smoking but the greatest words in the english language are "beer and sex". mmmm just thinking about those words and i'm allready happy.

i agree with spike ... when you say them with a nerdy fake french accent, it does sound french, and therefore beautiful.
poe and tolkien had a point ... the only english words that are beautiful are ones that sound like another language. lol.
cell-ohr doohr (fake french? accent? sick? yes)

Donnie says "cellar door" when he is at Sparrow's house at the end of the movie, so he and Gretchen go in. This is one of the many things that must happen in order for Gretchen and Frank to die again, and for Donnie to make his choice to die when the plane engine hits. She was the manipulated living when she wrote it on the blackboard, and she also could not have written it if she wasn't fired, which was because Frank made Donnie flood the school.

well, actually, the kiddie porn vault had nothing to do with "cellar door", it just happened to be revealed when DD was summoned by Frank to burn it down, so that Mrs Farmer couldn't go to LA, so Rose Darko had to, and therefore the jet engine could fall ... etc.
I guess I never realized why DD flooded the school ... I forgot that made the PTA get mad about the kids reading G. Greene's book and therefore Mrs Pomeroy got fired ... thanks reignman.

also, Donnie starts going out with Gretchen, which leads to her death, and Seth is pissed off at Donnie ("they think i did it" ... "you know what? I think you did it."), which leads to Seth attacking Donnie and Gretchen, which leads to Gretchen dieing. A number of things have to happen in order for Gretchen to die again. While people are "manipulated," Frank also causes Donnie to do things (flood the school and burn Cunningham's house) to cause Gretchen dieing again.
