Alright so I watched Donnie Darko (Director's cut. Haven't seen the original yet.) for the first time last weekend.
I've seen it 3 times since then, and I still don't fully understand the black holes part of the Philosophy of Time Travel.
Does it mean that every time a Tangent Universe collapses upon itself, does that mean that a black hole forms somewhere in the Primary Universe, but doesn't destroy it even though it can?
Or, does it mean that a black hole forms in the Primary Universe and it DOES destroy it, hence the need for a Living Receiver, who in turns saves the Primary Universe and so on and so forth.
OR is the part about the black holes completely pointless?
Personally, I don't believe that ANYTHING in this movie is pointless, and that every little detail plays a major roll in this movie, which is why it's so amazing.

The way I see it is the TU time line crosses paths with the PU time line on Oct 30th. This is the point the TU will implode in on itself creating a black hole. The black hole will expand and destroy all the strands of time including the PU.
Removing one of the duplicate Artifact objects seems to cause the TU to unravel safely before it implodes.
