Could you please tell me what is wrong with this interpretation and give the evidence why I am wrong so I can look for it next time I watch the movie...
Dead Frank is sent back or goes back by choice because he knows that the world will end. He chooses Donnie to tell, because his room is where the engine from his universe crashed down.
...whole bunch of exciting poop happens in the middle...
Donnie follows all the clues and goes to Grandma Deaths basement, where because of that Gretchen and Frank die. Donnie takes dead Gretchen to the mountain to watch the world end. I'm assuming he is watching the world end since that is when Frank said is was going to happen and the sky is opening up. This is where it gets fuzzy... I believe that the plane flies through the storm, the engine flies off, and goes through a random portal by chance ('act of God' in Prof. M's words) this is when Donnie decides to go back in time (he tells Dr. T. that he has the power to make a time machine, plus his reference to Back to the Future makes me think he did it when he drove away with dead Gretchen in the car) and sit in his bed so he would die, therfore changing the events from then on, therefore not ending the world...saving everyone in the story, even the bad people (thats why they show everyone that he would be saving during 'mad world'). I beleive he laughs at his new found selflessness and dies in peace. Could anyone help me figure out where everyone is getting the idea that Donnie sends the engine back using telekinetic powers? I watched the movie a few times and haven't picked up on this evidence yet. Thanks for reading my essay

I assume it is the theatrical cut that youve seen?
On face value your ideas are sound, and if your happy with your interpretation and your feeling on the film, then why change it?
Going in depth though, as i said in another thread, i would advise you to read The Philosophy Of Time Travel

Thank You, I stumbled across PoTT about ten minutes after I posted this thread. I just never thought there would be a movie that you actually needed to go through the special features to fullly understand. Sorry if I sounded ignorent, I now see where everyone is getting all these fancy terms. But besides a few details I'm pretty much sticking by that interpretation.
