i saw it and they called it a "continuation" of DD which i think is terrible.
it wasnt that bad as a single movie but i dont even want to associate it with Donnie Darko.
there were two separate tangent universes and sam had the PoTT book mysteriously. it kind of made me mad.

Guys I actually saw the sequal (waits to be shot........) anyway it was......ACTUALLY OK Now I know most of you must be like this >>> But it was ok.....It reference alot of stuff form the oringal and stayed true to the plot and story of Donnie Darko references include "Frank's Auto Shop" and a scene where S.darko and a preacher enter a movie theather and they are the only two there. But It leans towards a teen slasher flick also It makes it seem simillar to "Final Desatination" with things like news paper articles that mention strange happenings and "Unexplained Deaths" The actors are amatuer at best but they make you believe they feel the emotions there character's do. It lacks some of the "SPECIAL MOVIE THAT YOU ARE VERY FUCKING LUCKY TO HAVE WATCHED" feel that Donnie Darko did. And no Frank isn't in it, but It expains that after Donnie died in his bed some how some way people all around had a flash image of frank in their head, because two people end up drawing the mask at the end of the movie. It is a must see for any fan of Donnie Darko. I give it a 3.5 outta 5. PS. I was pissed When I heard of it first too.

s.Darkowhile not actually horrible, not very good either. apparently made in earnest and not to exploit it fails to reach the places that the original did (doesn't seem right to call this a sequel as it doesn't follow after the first film; all that remains is Donnie's sister, here reduced to "s.": there is no sequence.) in fact, this is just like a pale photocopy, with many of the same elements reproduced but nothing cohering into a distinct, separate story. difficult to make sense of and the characters don't establish themselves very well in one's imagination. in the end it fades quickly from memory and does not demand repeated viewings, unlike another certain film with a similar title.

^after more thought the next day, i realized that the story does have some very interesting twists & involvements *; i wish they'd been made a little more explicit, especially the connections between the characters and their actions. i give the director & writer credit: it seems they genuinely made this film for fans of the original Donnie Darko movie, as there is little explication re: Tangent/Primary Universes, Manipulated Dead, Living Receiver, etc. (all of which is given/understood if one has seen the first film). however, too many details are lifted/copied from the first film, which for me becomes distracting and a bit too ingratiating. for instance, we see yet another theater marquee w/the names of 2 movies on it, signifying...? it's worth a look but too bad it falls short of sharing the same shelf space as its predecessor. *thanks to Bigboy for comments which stirred my own re-evaluation darkomovie.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=time&action=display&thread=1222&page=1

So, basically... I just watched Donnie Darko for the first time tonight. I just pulled an all-nighter looking extensively into theories and am absolutely swept away by it all.
I was horrified seeing this. Thank god it was released straight to dvd and never hit theatres. i just had to say something when i saw in the plot (if you can call it that) that samantha's friend's grandmother wrote philosophy of time travel. "old lady = grandmother" wooooow. i thought she was supposed to be secluded and mysterious. but children? seriously? and if she'd been 101 8 years prior, then it makes no sense that her grandson is 18.
wow. it is just sad that that movie actually happened.
