In a discussion between Donnie and prof. Monnitoff, Donnie states this sentence. It's a discussion about the attendance/absentness of a fate. Donnie mentions the arrows coming out of his chest. These arrows show Donnie everyone's destination. Monnitoff remarks that if we see this arrows(our fate), we are able to deviate of this destiny, so - in that case - that means there can't be such a thing as a fate. Donnie's reply: "Not if we travel within God's channel." What exactly does he mean by that? That little things in life are random events, but that an overall life(i.e. the whole life of an individual) is predestined?
How do you interpret this very sentence?

Donnie is saying that if there is a God, even knowing your future wouldn't make a difference if God had predetermined your actions: If God can trump free-will than he can also trump knowledge of the future.
It sugests that his "time spear" has been altered/influenced in order to manipulate him (lead him to the gun).

Why does the physics teacher say that providing an answer to the question could lose him his job?

Why does the physics teacher say that providing an answer to the question could lose him his job? because he works at a Christian (Catholic?) school and his answer may deviate from doctrine/curriculum; it may involve more science than religion, perhaps even negating the latter. also, his answer may pertain to the research/conclusions of Roberta Sparrow, a "fallen" former teacher at the school, which he may be constrained, by policy, to discuss (his forwarding to Donnie of The Philosophy Of Time Travel notwithstanding).

I agree with Bigboy, I think that Donnie is saying that fate could still exist and your fate would still follow the spear because God already knew that you were going to see the spear and the spear you see now could represent a different path than if you had not seen the spear at all. The current spear could have been altered from a past spear. That probably didnt make any sense.
