I will start out by saying I am a complete film fanatic... I have seen all the david lynch films, all the kubrick films, tarantino... and all I have to say, is that this film is the most phenomenal thing I have ever seen. Perhaps it's the connection it makes with me, but I almost feel like I am Donnie while watching this movie sometimes. It connects on a deeper level rather than just superficially... it lives out the "other" kid's lives (not the popular notion of a football player jock who parties 24/7 and gets all kinds of women who are 3 cup sizes too large for their age). Listening to this soundtrack has the same effect, because it is now officially rubber-cemented to the movie for me
So why do I love this movie? I love the concept of Donnie being able to see what would happen if he "tore the world apart". He lived out what we can't by tearing the world apart and not having to suffer the consequences (based on one particular theory anyway).
I love this film. It connects. I'm deeply emotionally and spiritually involved in this film.... it's absolutely amazing.
I'll be looking forward to more of richard kelly... he's currently producing 3 more films! yay!
I think Donnie lives out what I wish I could have... definitely some regrets in my life, wish I could make soem different decisions and see what happens. Just to have something different....
also, if you want to see another film that connects in a similiar way, watch "the dangerous lives of altar boys" by Peter Care. amazing stuff....
