Sounds like he's headed into some traditional and fertile ground with this movie based on the Richard Matheson ("I Am Legend," on which the Will Smith movie of the same name was based -- though the ending was distored in such a way as to divest the whole movie of any of the novella's messages): imdb.com/title/tt0362478/

Yeah, that looks pretty interesting, but I'm not sure how he's going to get an interesting, complete movie with such a seemingly simple premise. Have other adaptations been done successfully before? Because I've heard this idea has been used more than once in the past.

A cinema near me did a one off showing last night, so ive finally managed to see it.
i loved it, thought it was funnny as fuck and suprisingly well acted by the rock. obviously not as good as dd, but still very good.
i dont think this is much of a spoiler, but i saw it as a bit of mix between final fantasy 7 and dd, if thats makes sense to anyone.
I desperatly want to read the books now though to get the first 3 chapters to the story. There are so many references to dd in it aswell which where fun (and easy) spotting.

Well, I personally found most of the acting god awful, but Justin Timberlake was good wasn't he?
Not sure about the similarity to FF7, I didn't really get all the way through that one, but I'm pretty sure they didn't try to destroy any Mako Reactors.
The cast certainly, was familiar to fans of DD, and the general feeling was similar. I want to read the books as well, but I'd rather buy them from a retailer than have to go online, but I can't find them anywhere.

with the ff7 reference, i mean in terms of the energy source, taking from the earths energy, damaging it and causing the people to go weird

Ah yes, I didn't think about that.

I broke down and downloaded this. It's a camera version, so I'm on the wall as to whether to just wait for the DVD. Are the effects worth waiting to see on a clear copy?

Not really. There aren't really too many effects. Did you check OV Guide for a more clear version?

Have other adaptations been done successfully before? I see a lot of movies titled "The Box" at imdb.com (excepting the thousands of porn references I'm sure would turn up on a Google search), but of the ones I've clicked on, none seemed to be based on the Matheson story. It does seem a little thin for two hours though, doesn't it?

So the DVD rip leaked online and I couldn't resist.
Personally I liked 'Southland Tales,' I think the critics were a little harsh in their assessment of the movie, at the very least it's something different. If you're expecting 'Donnie Darko 2' you'll be disappointed, it doesn't draw you in and allow you to connect with the characters on that level, but it was still creative, obscure in nature, and at times hilarious ("The 4th dimension will collapse upon itself, you stupid bitch" LMAO). My only real qualm with the film is, despite it's uniqueness, it lacks any real sensitivity all throughout, ending with a whimper, instead of a bang. 3.5/5

I think I agree on all points. The movie is certainly not without its merits, better than most movies I'd say, but not perfect. Glad to see you managed to get around to seeing it, Omni.

One thing that really irked me, was the way The Rock acted scared when the video camera got taken away from him by the corrupt cop. It reminded me of Donnie with the therapist, except it's the fucking ROCK. I can't picture that dude cowering to Jon Lovitz, even if he did have a gun lol.

Am I the only one that was underwhelmed by just about all the performances besides Justin Timberlake's?
It felt like they had all received their lines that morning and they were shooting in the early afternoon.
