eyes - Nope, I'm Agnostic and I think that Mad is Catholic - But I agree with you Buddhism is attractive - even to a hardened cynic like me!
Mad - In Buddhism it's also referred to as Enlightenment. (Essentially you achieve your innate Buddha nature and 'become' Buddha, thus achieving Nirvana)
In Hinduism, it's Nirvana too - I don't think you ever actually become a part of Brahman (I think, as you said, it's the same word for the highest caste in society). As I understand it Brahman is the embodyment of all the 'lesser' Gods.
(If there are any Bhuddists or Hindus here please feel free to correct me, this is just what I remember from Religious Ed in school!)

Yes.. you remembered correctly.. I am Catholic.. (not a hard core one) but I do keep an open mind to other ideas.. but I doubt I am close to converting (I enjoy the position which I stand from).. but yeah.. I try and encorporate different ideas into one and it's all very interesting... (you know try to find common/archetypal patterns and similarities between religions and all that is pretty amazing)

the whole movie before the part where donnie dies is where the engine came from... donnie didnt die the first time because he left his room to see frank, the jet engine hit, and he wasnt there. the result of this was that donnie (still alive) burns down cunninghams house, and they find the kiddy porn dungeon... then that one crazy bitch wants to get him out of jail cause she thinks hes innocent, then his mom has to go.... if donnie had died, he wouldnt have burned down the house, the crazy bitch wouldnt have tried to get him out, and donnies mom wouldnt have been on the plane... im not sure why it had to be her plane, but im sure it was something to do with her relationship with him or something after typing all of this, i noticed that i dont think i answered your question, but im putting it anyways cause i dont to erase it ::)lol yes but the thing is to go off into a TU would be impossible. this girl may not have been able to deduce a simple thing like where the jet engine came from BUT she is certainly right about FRANK. frank only has knowledge & power once he becomes the manipulated dead and that only occurs n the TU. Unless of course the MDs power traverses TU and the other. why would frank cause his own death in a TU? maybe frank woke donnie up with his beeping of the horn inadvertently. frank made donnie flood the school so that donnie would run into the other MD=gretchen. also, does drews character know that gretchen is an MD gah

maybe frank woke donnie up with his beeping of the horn inadvertently. also, does drews character know that gretchen is an MD gah Wow... congrats. Laura... one can definantly notice that you have read PoTT prior to posting here in order to have a further in-depth knowlege of the movie.... You are correct in the info you have stated here... but about you're "beeping horn" comment, actually even in the end of the movie when donnie did not wake up, Frank still honks as he is leaving Donnie's house. Thus it wouldn't make sense that the honking caused Donnie to wake up the first time but not the second time... Besides, Frank honks a few seconds before the crash of the jet engine, and in the begennning of the movie, Donnie had been far from home a long while already, so Frank's honk could not have been a possible factor that could have woken him up.... And I doubt that Mrs. Pomeroy (Drew Barrymore) had any insight whatso ever of who was MD or LR, but Mr. Monotiff (the science teacher) might have some slight ideas or something because after all he gave PoTT to Donnie (doesn't it make sense for him to have read it before giving it to donnie, specially the ending which has all the notes and and lists the names and their function in the TU?) Which leads me to my next statement that GramaDeath must have had some sorta previous divine insight to all of this in order to have made such a detail lists of all the prominent roles in the next TU...... and she wrote the book like some 20-40 years before the events....

Yeah, thats a widely accepted theory around this site.. but even if it is that way.. how would she know of the next occurance of a TU??? Which only answer I can relate with is some sort of divine enlightment (thus supporting the idea that a supreme beign is behind this instead of some futuristic scientist)

Sparrow wouldn't know when a TU occurs - none of the LM have any way to know if they are in a TU or not. But that's why she is always checking her mail. This is actually a scientific approach by Sparrow - the only way to be guaranteed to detect an unpredictable event is to continuously check for it, and that's exactly what she does. So divine inspiration on her part isn't really necessary.

You mean "ML" - the friend that said that never died...

Sparrow wouldn't know when the next TU was to happen.. but she did know who was going to be principally involved in it and their prominent roles... Which means that GramaDeath (if supposing it was future scientists) must have had a certain type of contact with them all these years... or that while in the TU or the transcourse/closing of the TU into PU.. she got some sort of incomplete distorted feedback...

What evidence do you have for that? There is nothing to suggest this is true: - the only time she acts as if they are in the TU and she knows about it is in the DC - and only after Donnie has told her in his letter. - The only person she interacts with is Donnie, and he initiates that contact. (Ok the near RTA initiated contact, but that was down to his father (and Sparrow) being ML, it's not like Sparrow waited for Donnie specifically before wandering into the road).
The only thing that is suspiciously convenient is that fact that she lives in the area at all.

Ok here goes, I know you guys get hostile but I wanna ask something, and I'm not sure I've seen it touched on, exactly. What was it that opened the tangeant universe in the first place? That Donnie didn't die (which maybe was in god's plan), or the jet engine.. the out of place artifact? If it was the jet engine, then Donnie's death would be for not, because at the end the jet engine is still an out of place artifact from either the future, or the TU, thus creating another TU, one in which Donnie would be dead to begin with. I understand the movie, for the most part.. about 95% it just seems that something is not right, there's a loose end that I can't place my finger on... and maybe it's those damn future scientists... cause i don't like that version.

We're not told exactly;
We know that a corruption sometimes forms in the fabric of the fourth dimention. This corruption causes the TU and the artifact is a syptom ao the TU. (And by definition a symptom cannot cause the phenomenon it is a symptom of, unless you reduce the movie to some paradox of circular causation.)
But what causes the corruption?
One explenation is the FSs - the corruption caused by some experiment gone wrong.
Or maybe they just happen very occasionally. The only problem with this is if you believe that God is the Mover in the movie, corruptions 'just happening' would suggest that God's design (and by extension God) is fallable.
Donnie escaping his fate makes no sense to me - when he is called from his bed to evade the engine, he is already in the TU. Otherwise how would MD Frank be able to be there to call him?
