ok, im not gonna go into the time travel theroies or the physics and fate stuff, i just wanna point out the obvious qualitites of this film.
the one thing that still gets me is that there is sooo much depth of this story, even though it almost comes standard when time travel is involved. the fact that you can have such spirited discussions about something so cool as this movie is so inspiring to me.
and the really crazy part is, that after hours of debate and research, analyzing every word and action, you can explain they whole thing with the fact that donnies a skitzo, hes been in therapy and his doctor certifys that, so the whole thing can be an altered view of the world through the eyes of a troubled mind.
you could say it was all a dream, the last seconds of a dream state world in donnies mind right before he gets killed in his sleep on oct 2. seeing how everything goes his way up until his time runs out. he gets the girl, fights the system, gets revenge and ultimately gets away with it until he runs out of time.
all the information is there to make this masterpiece as complex or as basic as youd like it to be. the best part is that there is no post text, there is no concrete definition of what happened on oct 2. for all we know there was a plane crash and the explanation that they couldnt find the plane was just a lack of information in donnies mind. go rent "waking life" if you havent seen it, and if you have watch it again. thats the best way of illustrating my idea on the dream interpratation of donnie darko.
in reality i have no real concrete explanation for this story, i really think there shouldnt be any real definition of what happens in the 2 hours we watch this, every time you can see something new, draw from previous sources and make your own definition, and thats really what makes it so damn good.
