It could not have been Donnie, because it has Jim Cunningham's deathdate, which was after Donnie's in the Primary Universe... That's a great bit of deductive reasoning. The sudden problem becomes, adding it eliminates everyone in the movie's timeline as potential note-takers, right? Are we then to turn to premonitions as the answer? Donnie's comment to Cherita about everything working out fine, in conjunction with the seeming future-casting aspect of the notes in the book might become a good case for Donnie's ability to see the future ...

But Richard Kelly had no say in the website as far as I know (I know he didnt design it) so it probably wasnt taken into account in the making of the movie

Not sure I understand your point, Twitch. Could you explain?

I can't speak for Twitch, but what I get from what he said, is that Kelly didn't directly work on the website, and therefore, the people who did decided to add in the page we are discussing (without Kelly's knowledge), which would mean that no one in the "movie" scribbled those names in, but they were put there by the creator of the site to clear up peoples questions about the roles... But I still can't speak for Twitch....

Well perhaps Kelly had a say in what they put in POTT but I think the whole obituary thing was out of his control and thus may not fit in with what he was going for

That's why I asked for clarification: I'm not sure how the obit consideration connects to the discussion on who (in the movie mythos) might have written the notes at the back of the PoTT,
From interviews -- especially with regard to the director's cut -- it is fairly proven that "in real life" Kelly wrote the entire book, and I'm assuming that includes the notes at the end ... since, to me, it seems likely he wrote the whole thing and not just parts. That could be a faulty assumption, but so far I'm OK with it as a premise.

The teacher was formerly in the CIA and NASA. Maybe he got it when he worked at either place.

Back to the Gretchen name change. Having just watched the movie last night. When Donnie holds 'Gretchens' head when shes dead he calls her Reggie.

Are you sure? he says Reggie? I thought it was more like "Gretchie" or "Gretchen"

If I remember correctly, Kelly did have a hand in the official website design and said the designers were "pretty cool." Since he took the time to go and talk with them, they apparently accepted his suggestions rather than the dogma handed down by the corporate office. Let me double check....#nosmileys

I'm fairly certain he says "Gretchen" or some derivation thereof when holding her at the end. Given that Donnie's sometimes mush-mouthed (see also "deus ex machina" in the Grandma Death scene), it's not surprising that it's unclear. But the phonology sure suggests he's actually making the sounds in "Gretch-en."

I don't think that there was just one copy. I don't think that Donnie would have been given the book with the of the names of the people in the notes. It would have freaked him out seeing his name in it as the primary mover. It would have freaked him out even more to see Gretchen as a MD.
It also doesn't match Donnie's handwriting.
I agreee with rightfilder21. It was just added to help out fans.

It was just added to help out fans. Everything in this movie was "just added to help out the fans" -- it's a movie, for heaven's sake. The whole fun of a forum like this is to try to piece together answers to questions in a way that keeps the mythos and the suspension of disbelief intact. It'd be awfully easy to answer every question about the movie with this: Kelly just wanted to entertain us. You're certainly not restricted by my POV, drb417, and of course I respect your opinion ... but I do think it's more fun to try to sleuth-out another answer using the context of the storyline.
