Just need one question answered...

I searched this board, but havent found the answer I needed, so aplologies if this has been ask/answered a hundred times before.

OK, so I understand that the TU began the moment Frank called Donnie out of his bed, hence the jet engine falling into the TU and not the PU, is that right?

It is then Donnies 'job' to return it to the PU.

But, I guess my question is why?!

Whats the point if Donnie dies anyway, why was he not just left there? What did it achieve?

I think there has to be more to it than "frank was showing donnie that he wasnt alone". Well, great, so why dont we all get that privelage?!

This is the only bit im really stuck on, can anyone help?

These are good baseline questions, TJ ... and though we have some shared conclusions here, not everyone agrees with them. The essence of the storyline as folks understand it on the forum is that Donnie is transported into the TU after its inception, which occurs before the engine falls. How he gets there is up for debate, but it's commonly understood that he and those around him travel to the TU as part of what I've called the "Living Receiver cycle" -- a whole series of divinely-controlled events designed to repair a corruption in the 4th dimension before the TU can come to its natural end ... that is, to become increasingly unstable and ultimately to implode, taking the Primary Universe and all therein with it into oblivion.

Donnie's manipulation in the Tangent Universe leads him to send the Artifact back through the wormhole and into the PU on 10/2/88 ... ending the TU and the threat. Donnie then dies in the PU -- the reasons and theories regarding his death range from it being a choice to become enlightened to the idea that he simply didn't remember clearly enough what was going to happen -- that "time's up" had a whole new meaning.

But, to specifically answer your question, Donnie was in the TU when he was awakened, and he needed to be awakened to follow his chosen path as the LR and return the Artifact to the PU, and in doing so save the PU from annihilation. Had he not been awakened by Frank in the TU, he would have died, and with him the chance to repair the rift and save the PU.

in very simple basic terms, donnie had to return the artifact to save the primary universe. if he did not do this, the universes would be unbalanced at the time the tangent universe collapsed and would take the primary and all life with it.

donnie's death is greatly discussed and disagreed upon here! some of us believe he HAD to die, some of us believe he didn't. many think that if he didn't, then he would live a life of solitude, and die alone, just as sparrow does. if you search for that particular thread "why did donnie have to die?" you will find pages to think about!
