Having a relatively boring job I was thinking about the last scene with Miss Pomery and Mr. Monnitoff?. He reaches over to wake her and then decides not too. This with the conversation between Ms. Pomeroy and the principle seem tied together. In that conversation I was struck by the statement "I'm sorry you failed." I got to thinking about that word choice and came up with this:
Miss Pomeroy and Monnitoff were significant in providing Donnie with information. Miss Pomeroy said everything she possibly could, certainly knowing that it might cost her her job, but she did it anyway. Monnitoff had a chance to give more information but stopped to protect his job. Who really failed. And then as I mentioned, in their last scene he seems to have something he wants to say but doesn't want to risk waking her to say it.
Reaching?
