I have thought about this concept, and reckon im close. The consistent use of powerlines between scenes is no unconcious decision by the director; is anyone else thinking that they are symbollic of the parallel universes, running alongside one another? It seems a pretty good analogy, where energy is passing along each line/universe but neither gives up or receives anything from the other? Of course, the engine (being the artefact) is the only transferable object in the film, and as stated before at no point does any person time travel.
Anyone else in agreement here? Any suggestions for other references/ideas?

The more parallels in theme and reference in the movie we identify, the stronger both become. I believe you make an interesting comparison ... and there's no reason we couldn't interept shots of powerlines as nods to the PU/TU parallel.
