Everyone seems to say that between Donnie and Frank in the bathroom was a mirror, but I don't see the mirror, is that an error of the movie, me missing something, or what?

You are correct, it is not a mirror... It is a water boundry...
I don't think "everyone" says it...

Chapter Two: Water and Metal
Water and Metal are the key elements of Time Travel.
Water is the barrier element for the construction of Time Portals used as gateways between Universes at the Tangent Vortex.
Metal is the transitional element for the construction of Artifact Vessels.

hah... okay kids, if you notice... donnie is in the bathroom. there's mirrors in bathrooms.
when donnie first sees frank in the bathroom, he is taking his pill. donnie opens the mirrored medicine cabinet, shuts it and swallows his pill... it is when he is looking in the mirror that he sees frank.
HOWEVER... there IS a special moment between the two, when there is a water barrier between them, and this is when they make a sort of physical contact.
(an interesting thing to look for, if you watch donnie stabbing frank in the eye... you notice light coming out of frank's eye... and this being DD, nothing is a coincidence. when the FAA guy shines the flashlight in a shot during the halloween party scene, you will notice it is the same light that emits from frank's eye)
