I was watching a preview for the Director's Cut of DD, and I got bored so I ran it through frame by frame in my DVD player. I don't remember where frames I saw were, but I noticed that there were about three consecutive frames in which a lemur hops across the screen. I remember reading in an internet article that Richard Kelly is an avid lemur enthusiast, so I'm guessing that this may be just some kind of inside joke. Then again, perhaps its some kind of deep parallel for Donnie's life. Whatever it is, it haunted me in my dreams all last night and it took me several hours to get to sleep.
Does anyone else have any opinions on the mysterious lemur?

Yeah, I do know what you're talking about. I too, tend to skim thru Trailers frame by frame (you're not alone!) and I caught it. If you think about it though, it makes sense. I have a couple theories, and here's the first one: I think that the lemur is a metaphor for the jet engine. It fits because the plane engine falls from the sky, and the lemur jumps from tree to tree. Do you see what I'm getting at? Also, I heard thru the grapevine that the lemur is featured in the Director's Cut as a friend of Frank. If you look REALLY closely at the party scene in the original, you can find him in a lemur costume at the back of the room. Just FYI, although I heard he was going to digitally insert him into most scenes. So there you go. Replies please!!

Yeah, I remember hearing something like that a long time ago, but nothing really in depth. Personally, I think lemurs are totally awesome. I mean, they're like really cute and stuff. IDK...

Hahaha, wow! I thought I was the only one that noticed the lemur. I have no idea what it means though. You all seem a lot more well versed on this subject then I am. When I first saw it I thought it was a ferret too, but I guess I was wrong.

Well you're both right and wrong. At the end of the movie, after the credits, ther's an aproximately 5 1/2 minute short thing about Frank's friends. The lemur is one of them, and he talks to Donnie about suicide and stuff. It's pretty cool. I couldn't find the lemur in the party scene from the original, and I'm sure he's not throughout the director's cut, but I think it's pretty cool that Kelly would go out on a limb like that.
