I haven't seen anything yet on a Donny Darko site about how Patrick Swayze's character and the teacher tried to shove the 'Love and Fear' theory down the students throats.
My theory is that the characters that Donny expressed love towards were the characters that seemed most content at the end of the movie (i.e., the two teachers in bed; the chubby, Chinese girl) and the two characters that Donny instilled fear - Swayze and the teacher - were the two characters that acted most distraught during the final scene.
Of course, the wild card here is Frank himself. My first inclination is to believe that Donny was afraid of Frank, but the fact that Frank saved Donny's life in the beginning of the film suggests that Frank loved Donny.
Just more speculation on a movie that craves attention from it's viewers.

I think Donnie made the trip from fear to love during the movie.....I think it shows his love for god that he is willing to accept his plan and his love for Frank for allowing him to lead him upon this path....he is being led but I do believe he had the option to betray Frank but didnt take it because he knew what he had to do and was at peace near the end of the movie
