Donnie Darko has many points. Love at least one person in your lifetime, live your life how you think it should be lived, be unique, make your life worthwhile, etc.
everybody's views on Donne Darko will vary, and that's what is so great about it, it's a very subjective film, everyone's personal biases shape the overall effect of the film.

Personally,I think you should read my Posts under Darko Time Travel, Lindsay, I know what I'm talking about, because I knew about time travel before Donnie Darko. I agree with Dan on the whole different opinion thing, maybe I'm full of shit and I'm actually wrong, lol, but thats the great thing about Donnie Darko,no one really knows what goes on in Richard Kelly's head but I like the way he thinks, its a good challenge for a demented mind like mine

[glow=red,2,300]-In the past, present, and future, there was, is, and will be BOB. Bob is the light that comes from darkness. The hope that comes from despair. The courage that comes from fear. The salsa that comes from Tahiti. Bob is everything that's good, and everything that's bad. Bob is All, All is Bob. Bob is Bob.-[/glow]That's from the book of bob. here's the link bobworld.members.easyspace.com/bob3.htm

Frank, it is better to keep quiet and look smart than to open your mouth and prove your ignorance. No one cares about your butt-pirate adventures. And Zebob has made more sense than you do. You wanna know something? You dont resemble anything about Frank except you both shouldnt exsist. Later poser

Im not sure about the point of the movie, but I am sort of confident that all of the events that occured were all to let donnie know he was not alone.

If you can stand one more opinion about this.... Donnie Darko was all about the symbolism of faith and belief. If you check ou the deleted scenes, that's kinda the direction that the directors were going in, but they wanted the viewer to travel that road on thier own, because everyone's idea's of God and the Creator are different, even minutely. The film can also be seen as a symbolic microcosm of our world in general....the superficial attitudes that we take in our daily lives...the Chinese girl loving Donnie from afar(ugly duckling syndrome)....the stigma attached to Grandma Death and her different, hermetic ways(hate anyone who is different from the norm)...the whole concept of the school and it's uniforms...I mean COME ON....that screams "BE AN INDIVIDUAL, JUST LIKE EVERYONE ELSE!". I dunno......maybe I'm making rainbows out of mud puddles, but there is a lot to be found if you look hard enough. Of course....I could be full of it, but I like to think I'm not. gypsyfeenix@hotmail.com

ok basically the movie could be interputed 2 ways. one is the idea of time travel and the tangent universe. the philosophy of time travel states that if a tangent universe is created then the world will become unstable and will shortly be destroyed hence 28 days.donnie creates this tangent universe whenever he follows frank instead of staying in his bed. to undo this he must find a way to travel back in time and reverse all the events that had happened in the movie. another viewpoint is that donnie does all this in the search for god and to make sure that everyone doesnt die alone. the scene where donnie had traveled back into time and he is laughing in his bed suggests that he has come to terms with the afterlife and that death is sometimes better than living, especially if you lose those you love. by staying alive and following frank donnie had lost his mother, younger sister, and gretchen, not to mention the trouble he would be in if he were to be caught. so either the world will end refers to the actual universe collapsing or simply donnies world falling apart. either way its a kickass movie which makes the viewer think

TEXTJust wondering if any of you huge fans of the film can help me, me and few friends have a dispus on what goes on in a part of the film, the part is when donnie is in the cinema and frank takes of the bunny head and his eye is mashed up, donnie says "how did you do that?" frank replys "you did it" now we are arguing about how it was done was it when donnie was takin his pills and frank appeared in the mirror and donnie stabs franks in the eye a number of times, with the knife in the eye {personally my choice} or where donnie shoots him in the end when he stops out of he car! please get back to me, i am slowly loosing freinds over this subject, thanks guys BbB! ;D

Frank is a ghost, so the eye thing is bc of the gunshot

It's another time travel thing. Frank was showing him what would happen later on. If you look when Donnie shoots Frank his eye looks exactly the same as in the cinema.

But I think the eye thing occurred when Donnie was stabbing Frank in the eye....which was an omen (and what not) of what was to happen in the future
