We had the pleasure of going to Walden Pond when we were in Mass last month. www.mass.gov/dcr/parks/walden/Soooo cool. It was amazing to think that Thoreau had been there... It is just down the road from Concord and the Old North Bridge. We went to the Old Manse which is where Nathanial Hawthorne lived for a bit. Thoreau had made the Hawthorne's a garden there when they were just married. "If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music which he hears, however measured or far away." Henry David Thoreau

The place looks lovely, but I just, I just hate Walden. The book, not the place. Place is fine, just don''t remind me of the book.

Hi, Pretender.
Walden is about the little things that Thoreau found significance in as he tries to live the hermetic lifestyle, however, he doesn't realize that he has gone insane and that the things he describes are only interesting to people that don't have human contact.
He wasn't completely alone at the time, but the lack of stimulation clearly lead him to misjudge the quality of his work. Unfortunately, some people decided it was good and thought they'd proclaim it a brilliant work of literature. I suppose that's their call, but I do not care for it. I'm sure the place is lovely, however.
