Weight, it's not blasphemy to posit that Kelley is "messing" with us. I've said before and I say again, the movie is ultimately full of holes, it's about more than something you can dissect and make sense of. I'm not saying not to, 'cuz it is fun, but...it is what it is. Lame? Sounds so. Is it in fact? No, don't think so. I recall that Keir Dullea, of "2001: A Space Oddessy," when asked what the movie was about, said "it's a giant rorscach test." I feel the same about "DD." But, as I've also said previously, the Director's Cut is apparently more explicit in its intent and meaning. And not having seen the DC yet, my comments regard the non-DC version. I hope it's on DVD soon, but I have a feeling that I'll still hold the original as a better film. Guess we'll see. Peace out. Oh...as we are 10 DAYS from the election, those if you that are 18 and don't like Bush...VOTE KERRY/EDWARDS!!! Word.

Well Richard Kelly did say "2001: A Space Odyssey" was his favorite movie....guess that explains it

No it's OK, I've not been scared off. Laying low for a while maybe but I'm still here. The Director's Cut isn't as good as the original: it helps you get into the logic of the film a little more but it doesn't exactly tie all loose ends together. It's not as well structured as the original either: some of the new scences don't really add anything to the story; they're just longer. Maybe this counts as news: I'm selling my DVD of the Director's Cut on ebay. Here's the URL if you're interested: cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=6333248290&ssPageName=STRK:MESE:ITNo-one's bid on it yet but I think a few are watching it. I kind of bought it in a flight of fancy but I don't really need it, in the hunter-gatherer sense. I'll have to post from Scotland, because that's where I am but it still should be cheaper than buying it first-hand. Yes, do vote against Bush. If I was American I would be too: I'm doing everything I can to influence any Americans I'm in contact with. Peace.

I think Kelly purpously leaves the movie, with "holes and gaps" to make you think and for you to fill it with what you think of. Kinda to make it flexible, because there are some movies that have a strict interpretation and just constrict it too much to the point your opinion doesn't voice. I really prefer it that way, because it makes you think deeply and eventually you will touch unconssioly within yourself. Yup right, go Kerry/Edward 04', which I would vote for... If I could. I'm underage. Which brings me to the topic which I think the Electoral vote/college was neccessary in the past, but not anymore, now its just dumb and absurd. I would really want Kerry to win, but I have a feeling that he will win the popular vote, but loose the electoral. I'm also consider myself a Democrat, but if I was to vote, I wouldn't really vote for Kerry, but against Bush, so Kerry is fine.

Under hypnosis he says "I have the power to build a time machine" - why would he say this if he wasn't going to travel back in time himself? What is he referring to? It can't be the engine can it? (Apologies in advance for continuing the discussion in the wrong section: seems we've thoroughly hijacked this thread beyond the point of return ...) Yes, I believe it can be -- and is -- the engine Donnie's referring to. Through his work, he can and does build a time machine: the engine is metal, it passes through water at the behest of Donnie's 4D powers and travels through time.

So the time machine is not a vehicle in which to travel, but an object used to hijack and manipulate time. So Donnie was in essence, throwing the engine back at himself.
And metal conducts electricity very well!

I would say that's right...
Donnie doesn't build a time machine in a "Back to the Future" sense... Instead is is able to control the elements that would create a "time machine"...

So the time machine is not a vehicle in which to travel, but an object used to hijack and manipulate time. That may even be chopping the logic too finely for the situation. Consider: D: "... I can build a time machine." ("That is, I can assemble several components -- including elemental, dimensional and mechanical parts -- and combine them together to make a machine that travels through time.") He really does build a time machine. It's just not meant for a human to ride in.

He's forced to head there to be close to the passing plane ... and near the vortex, into which he'll deposit the plane's engine using his 4th-Dimensional telekinetic powers. (My, that sound silly all typed out.)

Don't worry Gretch, your problem is that you have lived through the days of glory and are a veteran. You have written over 300 posts. What haven't you written about! Don't give up Gretch, that is the most common error in this site. People join, they writte and before long, they decide to quite. There are older names than you on this site, older as in they were here before you, but they all quit. Don't give up now. I truly myself wanted to to soon after passing the first level into i belive full member? or I forgot the post but yeah the second one after I belive 50, or maybe it was 100? Well but anyways I did not and continued. So final point and moral of he story, don't give up now so far. I know what will encourage, you want to beat Twitch.

What is that supposed to mean? Providence Hey I did not origanally and I don't think anyone really joins thinking that they will join for the count. At least I didn't I joined because i liked the website and I could recive answeres to my questions and help other people with their questions. I could discuss and share theorys with other people rather than myself. It makes me feel comfort.
