Donnie Darko hits #94 on the greatest movies of all time list on imdb.com/top_250_films. Which isnt saying much really, seeing how "The Godfather" holds the number 1 spot. Oppinions on this? Anyone?

Its blasphemy......Donnie Darko should be #1....but I suppose the godfather was more of a box office hit and gave the audience their instant gratification that darko doesnt

Godfather was a good movie. Greatest movie of all time? I don't think so. In fact, I know so. Alot more movies have come out that were much more powerful. The only emotion i felt when watching godather was "the killings are kinda cool", which is not much more then any other action movie ive ever seen.

Holy goodnight. Is "The Godfather" the best movie of all time? No. Is it one of the best? Without a doubt. "The Godfather" and "Godfather II," in particular, present a drama of epic proportions, not unlike a Greek or Shakespearan tragedy. Watch these films in tandem, repeatedly. They are rewarding, far beyond "the killings are kinda cool."

Your loss. Maybe you should try again sometime. Just like with certain albums over the years, sometimes it takes a minute to start appreciating a movie.

My opinion is that Godfather Part II is the superior film, where Part I was a cinematic landmark in shock value but has dated b/c that is its central asset. As for DD-- no comment, this is just an imdb list.

Mute, I like "II" more myself, but I'm feelin' "I" more the last year or so, after years of watching the trilogy. Also, Twitchmonkey, start with "Godfather" 1 and 2, check out the masterful "Goodfellas" and wrap it all up with "Donnie Brasco." Here endeth the lesson. Peace.

By damn, why not talk about the Godfather? I'm sure some enterprising person could draw a link between the Corleones and the Darkos. ;D
