"You see this little hole? This moth's just about to emerge. It's in there right now, struggling. It's digging it's way through the thick hide of the cocoon. Now, I could help it- take my knife, gently widen the opening, and the moth would be free- but it would be too weak to survive. Struggle is nature's way of strengthening it." unknown writer, Lost television program

"Nothing has a stronger influence...on...children, than the unlived life of the parent." Carl Jung This quote is actually very haunting... I could see how it might be terrible to have a parent who pushes their kid to do what they never could do.... In my situation I am constantly amazed that a kid 'from me' could have the strength and knowledge and confidence that I am still trying to achieve at the wonderful age of 47! :-)

In my situation I am constantly amazed that a kid 'from me' could have the strength and knowledge and confidence that I am still trying to achieve at the wonderful age of 47! :-) "haunting" is exactly the right word for it. in addition to the overt pressures parents put on kids to fulfill their unrealized dreams, there are the ghosts of dead ambitions that may not even be discussed yet always hover in the uneasy quiet, unsettling both parents and children. yes, i too am surprised by my daughter, how strong, mature, and intelligent she is. although i am constantly providing examples (oftentimes bad ones along w/the good) i find that she is usually ready to lead herself before i am ready to let her go. so, she is offering me opportunities to learn from her, if i have any sense about it!
