One last complaint, there was a "darkomentary" made by a fan.. that was the most disturbing yet pittiful thing ever... That guy was crazy and obssessed with Donnie to a point he did not posses a life.. Every single movement of his existance he had to relate to Donnie Darko and he was an idiot... He even did a kiss Kelly and run move towards the end of the film... He was the most pathetic being I have ever seen in my life..... That is why his little bit was put on the DVD What I don't understand is what was with the checks at the end? And the fireworks. What was with that?

I Went out and bought the DC when it came out. In my opinion the original is a lot better. First and foremost some of the changes in the music threw me off. I really like the placement of the church song in the original and not that I don't like the new song i just think the church was a better choice. And also the opening song of the original I think had a better feel to it then the new one. (Though I do like the new song) The rest of the additions like the extended scenes were good. It's been a while since I last watched the DC but I believe that the fact the Gretchen and Donnie kind of break up is also left out. (This is just from watching the deleted scenes of the original and I thought that these scenes should have been left in but that's just my opinion) and also I like the full cellar door scene and I wish it was all in there. I liked the Kubrickesque Close up eyeshots at first until they were overlapped with number readout or whatever they were. The whole movie just seemed to be a narrower view compared to the originals open view of this story. And as for the special effects I liked the ones from the original even if they were cheesy. It's still good but I prefer the original to the DC any day.

I haven't seen the theatrical version, so all I know is that I absolutely love the DC. I might feel different if I watched the original. The only thing I dislike about the DC DVD is the commentary sucks... it's more of a conversation between the two. I hope that the theatrical trailer commentary was much more focused!

I don't think seeing the theatrical will feel right after seeing the DC, but it's worth a shot if you want to bother.

I think I would get it mainly for the commentary.
