DD did quite badly during it's original US release. The DD 'cult' really started in the UK, and it's popularity spread from there, so I suppose that giving us the Directors Cut first was a kind of tribute to that.

But then again Florida is the size of England so being a success out here it a lot easier than being a success in America but you're reasoning is correct.

Alright, enough comparative geography , onto the review. Having just bought and watched the Director's Cut, once, mind you, I have to say that...I prefer the original. At least in some respects. I enjoyed the extra scenes with Rose and Eddie and the fam, et al. But with the added "eyeball" shots, particularly the ending one, with the "PURGE" and all that...two different movies in many ways. And yet I enjoyed this version too. I think it's fascinating that a few edits here and there can render two greatly different films. It's hard to say completley objectively if my fondness for the original is due to it's being the version I first saw and spent so much time thinking about and discussing (with the people who first intro'd it to me, curse them , as well as all of you). I don't know. One thing I can say with complete certainty is that the music in the original is BY FAR BETTER. "Never Tear Us Apart" in the beginning just...doesn't cut it. As well as the Church being relegated to a spot in the background on the radio...and so on. Anyway, these rambling musings are my initial thoughts on the DC. I dig the "future people manipulating everything" plot...but the original had more panache, in my opinion. (did I spell that right?) Any damn way, upon further viewings and sum stuff...I will comment. Peace.

Personally I tend to favor the "future scientists that are mildly interested in this fucked up kid's great actions, but don't affect them" theory.. I also like that the restaurant scene got added back in. I wish I had a moped.. And some ice cream
