Here's a fan comment from the first review...
I disagree. I just recently saw the film and although long and confusing at times I think it is a stroke of genius. I don't use that word lightly. Southland Tales is fearless and it is unlike anything else out there. People are going to scratch thier head but it is the kind of film that lives inside you.
A film critic's review is still only a human opinion, I'll decide for myself when I see it.

Indeed, indeed. Though I must say I was kind of with them about Domino. I'm hoping Kelly isn't just going to keep directing really weird movies that seldom work. That's a bit of a premature worry though I suppose.

That's a bit of a premature worry though I suppose. I read most of the reviews and they really slam the movie, but after watching the interview clips and such I'm still interested. Still it doesn't look like we're going to get to see it until the fall anyway.

Last night, I looked at the TV ... and shunned it. Looked at the stack of books next to me and rolled my eyes. Thought about the PC and the PS2 and the PSP and the ... and the ... and the. And was bored. Do you ever feel like you see it all coming a mile away? That everything's a formula and you've already figured it?
That's why I'm celebrating Southland Tales. If it's bad and unusual, it got the only part right that matters. Give me something new!

It's funny you say that because last night I spent about 20 minutes in front of my DVD collection was ahhh and just went to bed early. I want to see this movie now, this and "Roman".

It's getting about 60% negative reviews and about 40 positive. I saw the clips and I think it looks awesome. Critics hated Vanilla Sky, so you never know, man.

Critics hated Vanilla Sky, so you never know, man. Really, I didn't know that. I thought Vanilla Sky was a great film, I enjoyed it a lot more than the original.

Well if there is some good news to be had of this, some of those that did like it think it was pretty brilliant. There is always the possibility that I could be one of them.

Yeah, and critics at Cannes hate EVERYTHING.

Talking Movies on BBC News 24 described it as "A self indulgent failure". But then they also attributed it to the wrong director...
I'll reserve judgement 'till I actually see it myself.

That makes sense Richard wrote the movie himself, it's not like it's a remake of something else, and he only has one film under his belt you can't possibly define him as a director based on that. Here's a review that has me excited... www.aintitcool.com/display.cgi?id=23407

There is the possibility of further editing, I just remembered that. Perhaps the film can be cropped and shortened into a more graceful piece. I know DD wouldn't have had the same impact on me if I saw the rather overdone Directors Cut. Maybe things will be cut from Southland Tales.

twith, i disagree, i don't think the directors cut was overdone, i think it was more of an explanation film than anything. if it was the first one released, i guess people might say it was slightly overdone, but especially being released second, it was brilliant. and so what i'm trying to say is that everyone will like different things

I'd love to see a Directors Cut of Southland Tales released, but I'd rather the theatrical release be more like Donnie Darko than the DD:DC.
