in NYC does anyone know if it's going to a big theatre in Manhattan or arthouses like the Angelika or Sunshine or the place that immortalized it on midnight, i.e. Two Boots? please get back to me on this with any new info as I am awaiting this film more so than any of the "summer epics"

Just so any of you Donnie Darko fans in Los Angeles were wondering... It's just been announced that DD will be playing at ArcLight in Hollwood. Hands-down, the best theatre in town. And, for added kicks, they'll be having two special screenings were you can gather in the bar before and after and take your drinks into the movie on the evening of monday the 26th. Gotta love drinking in a movie theatre, it's fun. Just trust me, it is. If you wants info go to www.arclightcinemas.com Might be a good excuse to get some diehard DD fans together and have a gathering? Eh? Spread the word! -Shrubbery

I went to the LA premiere on Thursday at the Egyptian Theater, and there was a Q&A after the show with Richard Kelly, Jake Gyllenhaal, Katharine Ross (Dr Thurman), Holmes Osborne (Eddie Darko), Beth Grant (Kitty), James Duval (Frank), Jolene Purdy (Cherita), Stuart Stone (Donnie's friend), Steven Poster (DOP), and Christopher Ball (exec producer).
First of all, it was great watching the film in a theater with a killer sound system, it's a new and fresh experience. I think the sound mixing has been spruced up quite nicely, I might be wrong b/c I saw the original cut at a small arthouse theater, but what I'm sure of is that new sound effects have been added. However I'm a bit disappointed w/ the directors cut in general b/c it does too much of the mental work for you, where as the standard cut presents things in a more subtle and ambiguous way.
Anyway, the Q&A was great. It was all very laid back, and Jake, Holmes, and Beth were very funny. Richard was less science geekish than I'd imagined, not in appearance but in the way he spoke...he's basically an average guy who studders and rambles, which just goes to show his language is film and not words. Jake was also very cool, he spent about an hour in the courtyard chilling out with the crowd before the show.
