Hi there,
Can anyone help me with the following questions:
1)What was the meaning of the first hotel scene, where dad tells mom about how Frankie Feedler died when they where young. In an accident with a motor(?) on his way the the prom. (Could this have been the father of Frank. son, father and grandfather all named Frank).
2) How did the axe get into the solid bronze statue (he could not do that from the ground).
3) What was the meaning of the faeces in the boy's lockerroom in the school flooding scene?
4) When Donnie asks Frank "Why did you made me flood the school", Frank answers "They are in great danger. What did he mean and why did he use the word "They"?
5) Why did a light came out of Franks eye after Donnie poked in it with a knife?
And the questions which occupies me most: 6)Why did Gretchen wave to Donnie's mom in the end?
Thanx for the answers

3. comic relief....its really poo but the girls think its mice
5. i saw an explanation of this somewhere else, they said it caused frank pain or something i dont exactly remember
6. they had one of those gut feelings like they know each other, from the other dimension
that is all i can answer

From what i gather, yes...Frankie WAS, in fact "Frank"'s father....as he said in the movie theatre. The light in Frank's eye was a precursor to the would that Donnie would later inflict there. The bronze statue...well...I think that that was more "Frank"'s doing than Donnie. i hope that this helps.

the flooding does have a confusing part for me as well, what i dont get is does frank actually control donnie or what?? i didnt really get why donnie would write 'they made me do it' on the floor but i noticed when i watched it yesterday that the 'handwriting' it is in is pretty unusual but it appears again in the film on the darkos fridge 'frank was here, went to get beer' so did frank write the message on the ground or was he somehow working through donnie or is this just something that i am thinking far to much about

well frank doesnt appear to be able to touch anything..so I couldnt figure out how he could write on the floor, but when I read the philosophy of time travel book it said that the living reciever would have 4th dimensional powers including telekineses, mind control, increased strength and the power to conjure water and fire. the water and fire thing I guess is the school flooding and the house burning, but maybe donnie used those powers to get the axe in the dogs head and to write on the floor, like maybe frank wrote through donnie telepathically or something?

If you read The Philosophy of Time Travel book, it says the living receiver (donnnie) obtains superhuman strength.

1. The first hotel scene is to give more realism to the movie. A jet engine had just destroyed their sons bedroom and Richard Kelly wanted to show them in shock, drinking alcohol etc. As for the Frank being Frank's father, I suppose it's possible, but wouldn't he have to have had a kid at 17? 2. From the powers that Donnie has. 3. Comedy relief as said before. 4. Probably a warning that he has to die, otherwise everybody does. And for him to die the school has to be flooded, so he meets Gretchen etc. 5. Just symbolism and foreboding. 6. The Philosophy of Time Travel says that the people closest to the Living Receiver have faint recollections of what happened in the tangent universe, like a dream that slowly fades. Done and done.

5) Metal and water are the primary elements for time. Donnie being closest to the engine inherits the powers of time which includes the manipulation of metal (the bronze statue) and water (sprinklers going off when walking by Cunninghams.) Donnie kinda experiments when talking to Frank. The little ripples in the mirror indicate Donnie unconciously or Frank creating a barrier of water with which to communicate through time. When Donnie takes the knife to the mirror he's experimenting basically. He realizes that he can further tap into the future by using metal with water. Although hes not quite sure why.

4 - everything is linked to everything in this movie...goes along with all the predestined path stuff...I would say that teh They is everyone....and the "they" that Frank refers to is the same they that is written on the ground. Everyone is in danger...and for the reason behind the watermain, if the school had never of flooded, Donnie would never had bonded with Gretchen, if he had not done that, she he would always be alone, and if she did not die, i think the world would end...the water main is the the means to the end...to save "they"--the world

The part where Frank said he got his name from his father, and his father before him, always bothered me. Why didn't he just stop after he said it was the name of his father? Who was the father of that father? The explaination that the Frankie who Donnie's dad talked about was the father's father seems like a good enough explaination, but it makes me wonder what that Frankie's purpose was. Was there another artifact that had to be removed at the time Donnie's father was in highschool? Maybe that leaves room for a prequel :] This movie definitely needs to be continued somehow…

I strongly disagree... I think that this is the most fascinating film of all time, scoring a perfect 100/100 in my books. DON'T MESS IT UP BY CREATING A PREQUEL!!! In my opinion this film is nigh on perfect and would be virtually impossible to better with a sister film. Instead of wishing for a prequel, just watch Donnie Darko a few more times!

RE: Frenzal: "4. Probably a warning that he has to die, otherwise everybody does. And for him to die the school has to be flooded, so he meets Gretchen etc." _________________
Why does Donnie have to die in order for everyone else to be saved?
I think that Donnie finally realized that he can't be responsible for everyone else.. his sister says that he can't handle everyone's "shit" for them. I think time travel was available for Donnie so that he could make something of his life.. share an intimate connection with someone before he died.. patch up things with his mom.. his sisters.. his dad... and finally, to find some sort of meaning in life... so that in the end, he could die with a sigh of relief.
I don't think he is supposed to save anyone but that's just my opinion.

I don't Frank Feebler is the father of Frank (the bunny) because on the back of POTT it says the manipulated dead is Frank ANDERSON. Wouldn't they have the same last name if they're father and son?
